Lo-Sheng Sanatorium, the only leprosy isolation hospital in Taiwan. In the past, due to limited medical knowledge and widespread public fear, the government forcibly quarantined more than a thousand patients. Through successive regimes — the Japanese colonial government, the Kuomintang’s authoritarian rule, and the post-reform democratic government — people with leprosy spent their entire lives in the institution, living there for fifty or sixty years, stripped of their human rights and gradually forgotten by society.
